          FSS 1150 Skills for Success and Well-Being in Social Sciences (3 units)

          Development of study and stress management skills designed to facilitate integration into university, including effective methods for note-taking, writing, exam preparation, and scheduling, as well as the ethical and appropriate use of generative AI. Credits for this course are only counted as elective units within all program requirements in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

          FSS 1300 Introduction to the In-depth Experiential Learning Stream and Transferable Competencies (3 units)

          Introduction to the principles of experiential learning. Presentation and deepening understanding of transferable competencies. The course will also address the modalities and requirements of the IELS pathway and introduce students to different types of experiential activities.

          FSS 3101 International Internship: Integration Seminar (3 units)

          Intensive course that permits students to critically assess the role of interns in international work-study placements as well as to consolidate and be reflexive about their own internship experience. Reserved for students in the Joint Honours or Honours programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences having maintained a C.G.P.A. of at least 6.0. Enrollment is limited and requires the approval of the Faculty of Social Sciences according to criteria established by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

          Course Component: Lecture

          Prerequisite: The courses (FSS 4010 or ANT 4010 or DVM 4010 or ECH 4010) are corequisite to FSS 3101.

          FSS 3102 International Internship: Directed Research (3 units)

          Intensive course that directs students in the development of a research project related to their internship experience. The students prepare a project proposal that is presented in front of their peers, a research poster presented to the public and a final research paper on their topic of choice. Reserved for students in the Joint Honours or Honours programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences having maintained a C.G.P.A. of at least 6.0. Enrollment is limited and requires the approval of the Faculty of Social Sciences according to criteria established by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

          Course Component: Lecture

          Prerequisite: The courses (FSS 4010 or ANT 4010 or DVM 4010 or ECH 4010) are corequisite to FSS 3102.

          FSS 3210 Selected Topics: International Social Sciences Field Research I (6 units)

          Intensive field research undertaken under close supervision during the summer term, including an intensive preparatory training. Students will complete a research paper about the field survey. Reserved for students in the Joint Honours or Honours programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Enrollment is limited and requires the approval of the Faculty of Social Sciences according to criteria established by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

          Course Component: Lecture

          Prerequisite: 54 university course units. Previously SCS 3210.

          FSS 3295 Model United Nations (6 units)

          Preparation to take part in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference held annually in New York City. Examination of the UN system, the represented country's domestic and foreign policy interests, as well as its multilateral diplomacy. Students are required to take part in in-class simulations and engage in activities outside of the classroom. Reserved for students in the Joint Honours or Honours programs of the University of Ottawa having maintained a C.G.P.A. of at least 6.0. Enrollment is limited and requires the approval of the Faculty of Social Sciences according to criteria established by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

          FSS 3903 Apprentissage pratique en milieu professionnel / Practical Learning in a professional setting (3 crédits / 3 units)

          Stage de travail non rĂ©munĂ©rĂ© qui vise Ă  crĂ©er un lien direct entre la vie universitaire et le monde professionnel. L'Ă©tudiant travaille en moyenne un jour par semaine (environ sept heures) pendant un trimestre, au sein d'une organisation sur le campus ou dans la communautĂ©. Ce stage est Ă©troitement liĂ© Ă  l'acquisition des uOCompĂ©tences, et un plan de travail doit ĂȘtre approuvĂ© par le programme lors de l'inscription. À la fin du stage, l'Ă©tudiant doit soumettre un rapport Ă©crit, tandis que le superviseur de stage fournit une Ă©valuation. / Unpaid internship program that bridges the gap between academic life and the professional world. Students work approximately one day per week (about seven hours) for one term in an organization either on the uOttawa campus or in the broader community. The internship is directly tied to the development of uOCompetencies, and students are required to have their work plan approved by the program at the time of registration. Upon completion, students must submit a written report, while the internship supervisor provides an evaluation.

          FSS 5552 Introduction aux études sur le personnel de la santé : planification, politique et gestion (3 crédits)

          Aborder l'importance du personnel de santĂ© au sein des systĂšmes de santĂ©. Comprendre le systĂšme adaptatif complexe de facteurs, de secteurs et d'acteurs qui influencent l'approvisionnement, la distribution, la composition/l'Ă©tendue et les environnements favorables du personnel de santĂ©. Relever les dĂ©fis clĂ©s et les pratiques de pointe en matiĂšre de planification, de politique et de gestion des personnels de santĂ©, notamment en prĂȘtant attention aux considĂ©rations d'Ă©quitĂ©, de diversitĂ© et d'inclusion.
